The CFO-Panel survey in Dezember 2010 "Prospects and risk management in times of fast growth"
The economic depression during the last one to two years isn't very noticeable anymore. But previous incidents like the oil pest in the region of the Gulf of Mexico show how instable the markets are. To discover risks very fast, to cope with them systematically and to soften thereby displeasing consequence is a must-have for every company. In this regard it is decidisive that a company views risk management not only as the pure compliance to laws but uses also specifically for corporate management and for the protection of competitive advantages. Therefore, not only the identification and systematical management of risk but also of opportunities is necessary to identify potential growth drivers/constraints early and to initiate corresponding provisions. The objective of the study was to analyse which concrete prospects (growth drivers) and risks (growth constraints) the CFOs see mainly for their companies. What have companies learned from the crisis? Are they able to discover both opportunities and risks faster and to cope with them or to make use of them more effectively? Which role plays the management of opportunities and risks? The study represents results of 189 internationally active major companies. The majority of these companies comes from the industry and services sector. The management summary is available for download. The CFO-Panel survey in June 2010 "The CFO-sphere as a growth driver?"
After an economic depression in the last one to two years the markets seem to accelerate again. Although in 2008 and 2009 it was tried to compensate the partially enormous declines in sales primarily with intensive austerity measures, it also became evident that it is not a "cost crisis" but a sales crisis. Pure cost-cutting is therefore not a sufficient way out of the crisis. In fact it is important to stabilize sales quantity in a first step and afterwards to increase it to initialize a sustainable recovery. What’s your view on the situation of your company? What role does the CFO-sphere play in this connection? Will controlling succeed in supporting recovery by being a partner of management and at this preparing focused actions and improved instruments for example a more effective sales management? Survey May 2009 “Role of financial sphere in turbulent times“
The current economic situation also affects the financial sphere notably: While in many departments resources are cut, we found that in financial departments especially in controlling the opposite could be the case. But how have the contents and workload changed and how will they change in the future? 75 persons in executive positions in the CFO-area answered these questions in May 2009.
